Join VELUX Australia as our Regulatory and Public Affairs Manager, a pivotal role in advocating for healthier buildings with more natural light and fresh air indoors.
You will ensure regulatory frameworks support the integration of VELUX products into modern construction and renovation projects, collaborating with policymakers, industry organizations, and other key stakeholders to position VELUX as a thought leader in energy-efficient and healthy building solutions.
If you thrive in a market-leading company dedicated to optimal living conditions, this role could be your next career step.
We offer
An exciting role where you will be part of a global organization, working closely with the Market Director for VELUX in Australia, New Zealand and Japan and reporting directly to the Global Public Affairs Director in Denmark.
You will work closely with colleagues across Asia-Pacific, North America and Europe. You will develop and implement a public affairs strategy tailored to the Australian and New Zealand markets based on a thorough understanding of the regulatory frameworks, collaboration with our product specialists and your ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
We are thus looking for an outgoing regulatory and public affairs professional with solid technical skills.
You will be based in our Sydney office and there will be significant travel in this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy Development: Develop and execute a public affairs strategy for Australia and New Zealand in alignment with global priorities and local market needs.
- Policy Advocacy: Advocate for changes to building codes, energy regulations, and other relevant legislation to align with the company's goals and product innovations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, regulatory bodies, trade organizations, and other stakeholders in the building and construction sector.
- Thought Leadership: Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and public forums, showcasing our Healthy Buildings Agenda and positioning VELUX as a front runner in the sustainable building landscape.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Track legislative and regulatory developments, providing insights and recommendations to the local and global leadership teams.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other teams in our global organization, including Global and Local Public Affairs, External Communications, Group Sustainability, Product Regulatory Affairs as well as local sales, marketing, and technical experts.
- Position Shaping: As this is a new role, you will have the flexibility to shape its scope and direction in consultation with your direct manager and the Market Director of VELUX Australia.
Who we are looking for
Ideally you have a technical background with a Degree in engineering, technical architecture, or a similar filed (e.g., building physics, energy efficiency or building design) combined with strong hands on experience.
Other key words describing you:
- Stakeholder Management: Proven experience in engaging with policymakers, industry leaders, and trade organisations.
- Advocacy Expertise: Demonstrated success in lobbying or advocacy, particularly in influencing building codes, energy regulations, or similar legislation.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and execute long-term public affairs strategies.
- Networking Skills: Strong existing network within the construction or energy sectors in Australia.
- Trade Organization Experience: Experience as a technical expert or similar role in a trade association or professional body.
- Adaptability: Willingness and ability to define and shape the role in alignment with organisational goals.
As a person you have an analytical and positive mindset and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You have the ability to work independently as well as in teams.
You are proficient in using communication channels, including social media, as well as Excel and similar programs for data analysis and reporting.
What We Offer:
We believe in empowering people through knowledge sharing, delegating responsibility, and investing in those who strive to make a difference. You will join a strong value-based company where commitment, thoroughness, and mutual respect are core values, and where teamwork and professionalism are essential to the way we work. You'll be part of a team characterized by an informal tone, respect, and support for each other.
Our ambition of treating employees better than most other companies includes the challenging work environment we strive to create as well as the competitive benefit programs available to employees and their dependents upon joining the Company.
Your opportunities
If you want to make a difference, this is the place to be. You will work alongside experienced and passionate colleagues – in a setting where knowledge is shared, and responsibility is given to those who can and will. Our team is characterised by an informal tone and respect for each other both as team players and as individuals.
We are a strong value-based company where commitment, thoroughness and mutual respect are among the core values and teamwork and professionalism is essential to the way we work. We will provide you with the opportunities, inspiration, and state-of-the-art tools to create a brighter, common future.
