Primary objective
As part of Commercial Partnership's Customer Service team, manage the day-to-day running of the Permits function ensuring
effective and efficient service delivery in the issue and system management of permit agreements and associated systems.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead, supervise, train and monitor the work and performance of Permits Unit staff.
2. Oversee the day-to-day permits service to ensure timely processing and issue of permit agreements.
3. Provide advice to senior management in relation to permit management and review.
4. Approve / sign certain permits as delegated officer under the Department's schedule of delegations.
5. Provide a conduit between senior management and other agencies in relation to permit management and policy development
and assist with tasks within the unit's Customer Service team.
6. Implement review systems for permits ensuring compliance of permit provisions, within established timeframes and to ensure
compliance with any legislative amendments.
7. Develop pro forma correspondence, systems and processes for efficient permit management.
8. Recommend system / process / procedure changes to senior management, striving for continuous improvement.
9. Contribute to corporate reporting and enforcement processes through the provision of accurate permit information.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience in staff supervision and knowledge of contemporary management techniques with proven ability to work in a team
environment and lead and motivate staff.
2. Experience in the development of and processes for permit agreements and / or contracts including legal, audit and
procurement processes.
3. Sound knowledge and experience in administrative office-based procedures, processes and functions including
correspondence, accounts, records management and diary management, using office technology and word processing and
spreadsheets software.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills to lead and manage staff and communicate effectively with diverse
stakeholder groups internally and externally, both orally and in writing.
- Well-developed personal attributes including initiative, self-motivation, flexibility, confidentiality, and the ability to complete
multiple tasks concurrently with minimal supervision to deliver within set timeframes.
High level organisational and prioritisation skills with capacity to deliver effective outcomes in a busy environment.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive working relationships and partnerships with a range of internal and
external stakeholders with the ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act, By-laws and Regulations.
2. Understanding of the aspirations of Indigenous Traditional Owners in relation to permitted activities on their land and
governance processes for joint management committees/boards in developing permit conditions agreements in parks/reserves
under joint management arrangements.
