We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant to manage and deliver accurate financial statements, month-end reporting, and day-to-day bookkeeping. This role is responsible for performing account reconciliations, supporting the annual budgeting process, and ensuring tax-effective accounting practices. The accountant will also play a key role in maintaining compliance with project finance covenants and contributing to the overall financial integrity of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Accounting and Settlement

  • Preparation of monthly financial closing for a number of onshore entities. Preparation of timely and accurate reports, preparing and interpreting of reports, accounts, commentaries and financial statements for monthly and annual financial reporting periods.

  • Liaison with the outsource accounting providers as required to support financial closing.

  • Support the end of financial year & half yearly reporting process including liaison with external auditors for the completion of Annual Reports.

  • Review the fortnightly payment accuracy, coding and posting in general ledger.

  • Monthly bookkeeping and management accounts for assigned entities, account reconciliation and review intercompany transactions.

  • Review of monthly/quarterly GST filings and annual tax filings.

  • Review the monthly, semi-annual and annual accounts of all VE related entities and ensure all transactions are captured and coded correctly in accordance with the company policies and AASB/IFRS.

  • Ensure intercompany advances are cleared on monthly basis.

  • Support with stakeholder relationships in relation to Vena Energy Australia (Auditors and lenders). Co-ordinate with auditors as focal point.

  • Support as required for treasury requests (including cash balance reviews, fund request memo's & other liquidity requests).

  • Support as required with revenue settlements (including Invoicing, Reconciliations, Collection of funds, Reviewing invoicing models & other support as required).

  • Assist to prepare technical accounting papers where required (e.g. IFRS 16, impairment etc.).

  • Assist to prepare regular cash flow forecasts and updating Anaplan for reporting.

Management Accounting & Reporting

  • Assist in preparation of annual operating and capital budgets through a consultative process with the local and group teams.

  • Assist with collating data and providing explanations for both internal and external auditors.

  • Monitor project and capital expenditure against approved budget.

  • Assist in preparing monthly financial management report for senior management.

  • Interphase with accounting team in the offshore offices.

  • Assist in providing any financial information and analysis requested by the business.

  • Provide active coaching to the onshore team and timely support their queries .

Improvement

  • Involvement in accounting and finance related policy issues including the development and review of policies.

  • Involvement in identifying and implementing financial system improvements, processes and procedures. This may include a transition to a new finance system.

  • Involvement in the review of internal controls, identifying areas for improvement and implement changes.

  • Interface with group accounting team, commercial team and respond to queries and ad hoc requests.

Prerequisites:

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related discipline

  • CA qualification commenced or completed

  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in accounting and financial reporting

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software packages

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to think independently and critically

  • Prior experience in construction accounting is highly desirable

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across a diverse organisation, including vendors and lenders

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including report writing

  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and professional integrity

  • Highly organised, methodical, and efficient in managing tasks and deadlines

  • Ability to work autonomously and deliver high-quality outcomes

  • Genuine interest in and passion for the renewable energy sector

  • Proven stable work history with a track record of reliability and consistency

Good to Have

  • Experience working in a Big 4 accounting firm

  • Exposure to AI tools or experience implementing technology-driven improvements in accounting functions

  • Industry experience in renewable energy or other natural resources
