The Opportunity

In this role, you will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients with intellectual and/or physical disabilities involved in the justice system. You'll help them understand their rights, access essential services like NDIS and Centrelink, and ensure their voices are heard.

What You'll Do

  • Champion the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients with disabilities.
  • Guide clients through the justice system, courts, and community meetings.
  • Empower clients to self-advocate and have their voices heard.
  • Connect clients to services like NDIS, Centrelink, and housing supports.
  • Collaborate with solicitors, social workers, and community partners for better outcomes.
  • Maintain clear records and contribute to program reporting.
  • Build strong relationships with external agencies and local communities.

Who We're Looking For

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity with strong community connections (essential).
  • Experience supporting people with intellectual and/or physical disabilities, ideally in justice, social work, or community services.
  • Strong advocacy skills, both in empowering clients and representing their views.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in trauma-informed, culturally safe, client-centred ways.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, attend appointments, and maintain accurate records.
  • Current ACT driver's licence and ability to travel intrastate with passengers.
  • Current, clear Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) Check.
