Metro Mining Limited (ASX: MMI) is an Australian exploration and mining company based in Brisbane. Metro's flagship project, the Bauxite Hills Mine, located 95km north of Weipa is one of the largest independent projects within the internationally acclaimed Weipa Bauxite Region.

Metro Mining is currently seeking skilled Crane Operators for positions on our offshore vessel, the Ikamba: Our offshore floating terminal, facilitating the transfer of product from barge to large ocean-going vessels.

As Crane and Mobile Plant Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various heavy machinery, including cranes, front-end loaders and dozers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate designated e-cranes and mobile plant safely and efficiently, and as directed by the Master
  • Excavate, backfill, level, and move bauxite and other materials as directed
  • Support day to day operations by undertaking deckhand duties as required
  • Complete pre-start checks in line with Metro Mining's policies and procedures
  • Accountable for personal and team safe work practices including the following, supporting, and providing feedback on of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) Job Safety Analysis (JSA's), Toolbox Talks, injury and incident reporting and other health and safety requirements
  • Report incidents in a timely, accurate and efficient way in line with company procedure and ensuring Metro's Safety culture
  • Maintain the OFT in a reliable, tidy, and safe manner, including maintenance such as conveyor checks, cleaning, and greasing
  • Communicate effectively with the team on any unplanned maintenance and repair requirements
  • Assist with physical tasks, which may include use of a shovel, pick axe or other hand tool when required
  • Work within Metro Mining's policies, procedures, Code of Conduct and Values
  • Ensure Safe Operating Procedures (SOP's) are in place and adhered to
  • Ensure that all safety, environment mining, and other legislation relevant to the mine site are met and adhered to
  • Other tasks as directed

Qualifications and experience, skills and behaviours

  • Hold a C1, G5 (Offshore Crane) or CO Crane license
  • Experience in operating Cranes and Excavators
  • Relevant RII (Resources and Infrastructure Industry) qualifications including Loader, Excavator or Dozer
  • Certificate of Safety Training (SCTW) or equivalent or ability to complete
  • Working at Heights licence & current first aid certificate
  • Ability to think strategically and exercise common sense
  • A great attitude with the proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrate sound environmental awareness and safe work practice
  • Adhering to environmental regulations and minimising environmental impact
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Able to work with and actively contribute, within a diverse team
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity towards equity and diversity
  • Organised and able to meet deadlines
  • Able to work within, support and promote Metro Mining's culture and values
