Mobile Technical Team Lead

MECCA is focused on delivering a seamless mobile shopping experience, and as our Mobile Technical Team Lead, you will play a critical role in shaping and driving the mobile strategy.

The Role You Could Play
Reporting to the Technical Director – Omnichannel, you will lead the mobile development team and guide them in designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance, scalable, and secure mobile applications. This role requires strong technical expertise in React Native development, along with a solid understanding of iOS and Android platforms. Leadership skills and a forward-thinking approach to mobile architecture, security, and best practices are essential. You will work closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, and business analysts to build and enhance MECCA's mobile app ecosystem, ensuring a smooth omnichannel experience for customers.

Your day-to-day will also include responsibilities such as:

• Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire cross-platform mobile development teams, driving a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence
• Proven experience architecting and delivering high-quality React Native applications with strong emphasis on performance, security (OAuth, JWT, biometric), and responsive UI/UX
• Deep understanding of modern mobile practices including Agile methodologies, CI/CD automation, mobile app monitoring, and compliance with privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR)
• Strong collaboration skills with experience engaging cross-functional teams including DevOps, backend services, product, UX/UI, analytics, and marketing to deliver integrated solutions
• Skilled in technical oversight and governance, including code reviews, documentation standards, project risk forecasting, and adherence to platform guidelines (App Store/Google Play)

What You Will Bring
You are an experienced mobile development leader with 8+ years experience, including 3+ years leading high-performing teams in fast-paced, product-driven environments. With a strong background in large-scale consumer or e-commerce applications, you're known for your ability to navigate complex technical challenges, collaborate effectively across disciplines, and deliver seamless mobile experiences. Your proactive mindset and passion for innovation keep you ahead of industry trends, and your communication skills make you a natural collaborator in cross-functional environments.

You will also be able to demonstrate:

• Advanced expertise in React Native, with hands-on experience managing native modules and performance tuning
• Solid understanding of native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) development for bridging and optimisation
• Deep knowledge of mobile UI/UX design principles, animations, and accessibility standards
• Experience with API integrations using RESTful services and GraphQL
• Strong familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, cloud deployments (particularly AWS), and automated mobile testing tools (e.g. Detox, XCTest, Espresso)
• Proven track record in applying mobile security best practices, including OAuth, JWT, and biometric authentication
• Skilled in root cause analysis, production support, and driving stability through proactive issue resolution
• Agile practitioner with experience using tools like JIRA and Confluence
