Your role at St John of God Subiaco Hospital

We are seeking applications for a Patient Care Assistant to join our Day Surgery Ward at Subiaco on a casual basis.

Our Ward is a 46-bed combined DOSA and Day Surgery Unit providing preoperative and postoperative care to surgical patients in a wide range of surgical specialities.  These include Cardiology, Orthopaedic, ENT, Vascular, Gynaecology, Plastics and General Surgery.

You will join as an integral multi-disciplinary team member providing a high standard of care for patients in the areas of patient care, patient transport and support of the nursing care team as directed.

The Position

  • All direct patient care is carried out under the direction and supervision of Registered Nurse/Midwife/Enrolled Nurses.

  • Transfer patients using all forms of patient transport to all areas of the Hospital.

  • All duties are carried out in accordance with the duty list.

  • Perform manual handling of patients under supervision of Registered Nurse/Midwife/Enrolled Nurses.

  • Assist Nursing Caregivers with the care of patients.

  • Ensure privacy of patients is maintained.

  • Understand role in an emergency and follow direction of the coordinator.

  • Maintain safe environment for patient contributing to patient comfort needs.

  • Contribute to an efficient and timely patient admission, transfer and discharge process.

  • Assist Registered Nurse/Midwife/Enrolled Nurses in care of deceased patients.

We are seeking a motivated individual who holds a Certificate III in Health Service Assistance (Client/Patient Services) or a similar qualification or is currently studying in a health-related field at a tertiary level. The ideal candidate will have well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently

  • Hourly rate: $39.25 to $41.11 (inclusive of 25% loading) plus 12% superannuation
