As part of our ongoing commitment, we are expanding our team and inviting First Nations health professionals to apply for the following three key roles that will help shape the future of culturally responsive medical training in Australia:

About the role

Support and advocate for GP Supervisors who are delivering culturally safe training. This position plays a key role in ensuring that cultural education is embedded across supervision and learning environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Training, Education and Assessment teams to guide cultural safety principles and input to supervision supports
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance of the accreditation and supervision process with a particular focus on the principles of cultural safety and competence as applied to fellowship support.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to Supervisor Liaison Officers on cultural safety protocols when working with registrars, supervisors and training posts.
  • Provide one-to-one support to supervisors and services as required and act as a conduit for the facilitation of and engagement with Salary support funding.
  • Provide guidance to and oversight of the development of key support resources suitable to the support of supervisors working in this space.
  • Provide strategic insight to the Senior Cultural Advisor (and in turn the Indigenous Members Group and Executive) on improvements to delivery and key risks
  • Build and maintain strong working relationship with Joint College Training Services (JCTS) and partnership agencies such as Indigenous General Practice Trainee Network (IGPTN) and Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association (AIDA) to strengthen First Nations supports and resources for supervisors and to increase levels of culturally safe practice.

Reporting & Collaboration

This role reports to the National Lead Medical Educator - Cultural Education, and works in close partnership with the Training, Education and Assessment teams and external organisations including JCTS, AIDA and IGPTN.

What We're Looking For

  1. Full unconditional medical registration with Australia Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (APHRA).

  2. Identify as a First Nations person.

  3. Specialist registration in the specialty of General Practice holding Fellowship of ACRRM.

  4. Currency of clinical practice with a minimum of 10 years' experience in rural & remote medicine.

  5. Experience and understanding of the medical education environment within a rural context.

  6. Understands the requirements of ACRRM Fellowship Training Program.
