MHDAS is entering a new phase of co-design of our service system with people who access our services and our wider community. This will build on our nationally recognized unique cultural approach to the challenges of recovery-oriented service delivery to redesign our service system.

About the facility

Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon Southwest Region, including Torquay and Colac.

About the role

Barwon MHDAS currently have a permanent part time opportunity suitable for recently graduated or experienced psychiatrists in our Consultation‑Liaison (C‑L) Service based at University Hospital Geelong (UHG).

The C‑L service encompasses a wide range of activities, including undertaking primary, secondary and tertiary consultation and liaison across all UHG wards, acting as a mental health resource for non‑mental health staff, provision of educational support for UGH nurses, midwives and medical staff, and contributing to collaborative care planning to assist ongoing mental health treatment. The role requires the ability to work with consumers of all ages across all UHG wards. The C‑L service is made up of a multi‑disciplinary team which includes Consultant Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Registrars, an Intern, C‑L Nursing staff including dedicated AOD Nurses, Administrative support staff and a Team Manager. The breadth of clinical exposure within the team means we can provide psychiatrists with career opportunities and working arrangements that can suit their individual circumstances and professional goals.

Key requirements of the role are:

- Provide leadership and clinical governance to the C‑L service in the provision of high‑quality psychiatric services to consumers.
- Act as a delegate of the authorised Psychiatrist as defined in the Mental Health Act 2022 and contribute to the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement Program of the service.
- Supervision of Psychiatry Registrars and Junior Medical Staff.
- Applicants must hold the FRANZCP, be accredited as a supervisor by the RANZCP, and be registered with general or specialist medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- Advanced Certificate in Consultation‑Liaison Psychiatry or experience working in a Consultation‑Liaison service is desirable but not essential.
