The WHS National Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining MA Services' Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) systems, policies, and practices to ensure compliance with legislation, promote a strong safety culture, and support the wellbeing of all employees. The role oversees incident management, Workcover claims, return-to-work programs, and continuous improvement in workplace safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous review of MA Services' WHS Management System to ensure legislative and regulatory compliance.
- Manage the reporting and investigation of incidents, including leading serious incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and effective preventive measures are in place.
- Oversee and manage Workcover claims from lodgment through to resolution, liaising with insurers, medical providers, and employees to ensure timely and accurate case management.
- Develop, implement, and monitor return-to-work programs, supporting injured employees in a safe and sustainable transition back into the workplace.
- Collaborate with and mentor operational and business leaders to enhance WHS knowledge, ownership, and engagement.
- Develop and implement programs that promote hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control.
- Maintain accurate WHS records, monitor data to identify trends, and prepare quarterly and annual WHS performance reports.
- Provide guidance to managers on completing Site Risk Assessments and client-specific Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and SWMS.
- Support the Business Development Team with WHS-related tender responses and client reporting requirements.
- Lead and participate in site-based and organisation-wide health and safety initiatives, audits, and compliance activities.
- Develop and implement WHS training needs analysis, coordinating with the training team for delivery.
- Advise leadership on WHS legislation, compliance requirements, and operational safety impacts.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience in a WHS management role, ideally within the security, facilities, or services industry.
- Tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety or a related discipline.
- Proven ability to manage WHS systems, incident investigations, and compliance audits.
- Experience in managing WorkCover claims and employee return-to-work programs.
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, standards, and best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience working with diverse workforces and cultural backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide training, mentoring, and leadership in safety matters.
