About the roles

We're seeking Correctional Officers (COs) with excellent communication and conflict resolution skills to join us at Mount Gambier Prison. COs have direct prisoner contact with their role.

Our training program is comprehensive and includes training in standard operating procedures, self-defence, radio training, report writing, first aid & CPR, communication skills, incident response, x-ray and ion scan screening, fire training, and more.

Correctional Officers

Our Correctional Officers work directly with prisoners and play a critical role in prisoner case management, monitor their rehabilitation activities, conduct daily searches and counts, undertake security patrols, write case notes and prepare reports.

  • Rates - $62,463 p.a. for your training | $76,899 p.a. after training | $81,965 p.a. once fully accredited.
  • Roster - 3 days a week | 12.5-hour shifts | Mix of weekdays, nights, weekends & public holidays.

What we're looking for

No qualifications or prior experience in corrections is required, it's your life skills that are highly valued in these roles. We're looking for the following:

  • Able to work a rotating 24/7 roster, including public holidays & weekends
  • Holder of an Australian driver's licence
  • Physically fit and able to pass a medical assessment
  • Full Australian working rights
  • Able to commence in February 2026

G4S has operated Mount Gambier Prison (MGP) end-to-end since 1995, as a low to medium security campus style prison.
