Primary objective
Plan, coordinate and conduct research, development and extension projects and activities aimed at improving the sustainable
development of the pastoral industry in the Katherine region.
Key duties and responsibilities
Undertake beef cattle research and extension projects to achieve successful delivery of departmental programs.
Work as part of a team to deliver effective extension activities and create targeted extension material.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree in Agricultural Science or equivalent.
2. Practical skills and experience related to beef cattle production from extensive pastoral regions, particularly the tropical
regions of northern Australia.
3. An understanding of experimental design and project management, and experience in research techniques applicable to
extensive pastoral operations.
4. A willingness and ability to carry out field work under challenging conditions for extended periods.
5. Demonstrated interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and proven ability to interact positively with
producers, colleagues and government personnel.
6. Demonstrated computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
7. Experience in conducting extension activities relevant to extensive cattle production systems.
8. Proven ability to work as part of a team.
9. A current and valid driver's licence or ability to obtain.
Desirable
1. Demonstrated understanding of the issues facing the pastoral industry in northern Australia. Ability to analyse
developing issues, opportunities or needs and develop activities to address these.
Further information
This position is office based, with significant travel including remote areas.
