The Opportunity

The Senior Engagement Officer role is a leadership position within the Branch. They oversee and guide the day-to-day operational activities of a team to deliver high quality services and policy implementation. They are responsible for ensuring that performance measures for the team are met. They may undertake management or oversight of small projects for the team or, work with larger projects for the branch.

The Senior Engagement Officer cultivates a team with a supportive culture. They encourage innovation and an environment where staff are valued and committed to producing quality outcomes. They contribute to business improvement strategies, seeking to identify best practice. They coach and share expertise and technical knowledge with team members, peers and more broadly across the agency. The Indigenous Engagement Officer develops and maintains complex internal and external relationships with key NIAA stakeholders, providing appropriate advice and managing the resolution of issues or complaints. The Senior Engagement Officer promotes a healthy and safe workplace environment, and models ethical behaviour in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct and APS Values. Key duties of this role are:

- monitoring a range of channels to engage and manage relationships with government partners
- following systems and procedures when creating content to be developed mutually with government partners, taking into consideration their own preferences and standards
- undertaking research and analysis in support of Government Engagement work program activities
- assisting in the preparation of reporting and presentations for the Agency, including cyclical reporting to NIAA's committee/s and relevant government agencies
- participating in the development and implementation of improvement projects to improve NIAA's approach to government engagement, leading to strong partnerships that deliver on the advancement of Indigenous Australians
- building and maintaining productive relationships and inclusive networks with internal and external stakeholders to deliver defined services and outcomes
- participating in forums within the team and branch, using approved NIAA governance processes

- coaches and supports team members to improve capability by offering on-the-job training and informal coaching
- takes responsibility for personal performance and competency using the NIAA Engage Framework and ensures Engage on a Page has formally been completed and recorded online
- applies sound judgement and makes evidence-based decisions aligned to the organisational operating environment and legislative frameworks
- guides others to identify and mitigate foreseeable risks
- represents the branch and contributes to building productive relationships and inclusive networks through collaboration with providers, partners and stakeholders, to resolve issue and realise agreed outcomes.

Eligibility

- To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen.
- The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
- The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check
