Join our Finance Branch as Manager, Financial Accounting and help deliver exceptional financial services to our community and business partners.
Our Finance Branch operates through six specialised teams: Branch Management, Corporate Accounting, Financial Accounting, Revenue, Financial Operations, and Procurement.
About the Role
As the Financial Accounting Manager, you will:
- Lead Council's financial accounting functions, including statutory and monthly reporting.
- Provide expert advice on financial and taxation matters.
- Oversee internal controls, asset accounting, and taxation services.
- Manage and mentor a team of specialists in financial, tax, and asset accounting.
Position Responsibilities include:
- Lead and develop a high-performing financial accounting team.
- Deliver expert financial guidance to diverse stakeholder groups.
- Implement robust frameworks for accounting, taxation, and asset management.
- Prepare complex reports and correspondence for senior leadership.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety standards.
- Champion innovation and continuous improvement across financial operations.
Key indicators for success:
- Tertiary degree in Business, Accountancy, Commerce, or Finance Management.
- Full membership of Certified Practicing Accountants or the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
- In depth understanding of Accounting Standards, taxation rulings, and local government financial practices.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance, and foster professional development.
- Comprehensive experience in statutory reporting, taxation and asset management.
- Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills in complex financial environments.
- High-level skills to influence, negotiate, and lead in regulated settings.
- Advanced computer literacy in financial systems, including asset management, and reporting tools.
- Ability to pass an employment-related background check/s and be assessed as suitable to be able to ethically perform the inherent requirements of this position, including a National Police Check
- Possession of a current "C" class driver's licence.
