Your next career opportunity
As a Technical Officer in Genetics and Molecular Biology at the School of BioSciences, you'll play a crucial role in supporting undergraduate practical teaching. You'll have the opportunity to work with diverse organisms, from Drosophila to cultured cells, whilst ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory classes. Your expertise will contribute to developing new practical classes, maintaining specialised equipment, and upholding laboratory safety standards, directly impacting the quality of science education.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Support Undergraduate Teaching: Prepare and verify materials for genetics-based practical classes, attend sessions to provide technical assistance, and contribute to developing new experiments.
- Maintain Biological Resources: Document and manage the upkeep of molecular biology facilities, including various model organisms for teaching purposes.
- Ensure Laboratory Safety: Maintain a safe working environment, conduct safety inspections, and contribute to updating safety documentation and protocols.
- Provide Operational Support: Maintain equipment, procure necessary goods and services, and collaborate with the technical teaching support team.

The School of BioSciences was formed in 2015 through the amalgamation of the School of Botany and the Departments of Genetics and Zoology thus bringing together a critical mass of 160 Academic staff and 240 Research Higher Degree students undertaking world class teaching and research in the biological sciences. Academics within the School are aligned to 2 research domains - Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and Cells & Systems Biology.
