As a Platform Support Officer in the Biological Optical Microscopy Platform, you'll play a crucial role in advancing biomedical research at the University of Melbourne. You'll have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge optical microscopes, providing essential support to researchers and contributing to scientific breakthroughs. Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining and operating high-end imaging equipment, training users, and supporting innovative research projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Administer Platform Operations: Manage day-to-day activities, ensuring smooth functioning of the microscopy facility.
  • Provide Expert Training and Support: Deliver high-quality instrument training and troubleshooting for researchers using advanced microscopy techniques.
  • Maintain Cutting-edge Equipment: Perform routine maintenance on sophisticated microscopes to ensure optimal performance.
  • Support Research Projects: Offer microscopy expertise to assist researchers in their groundbreaking studies.
  • Contribute to Team Success: Collaborate effectively with academic and professional staff to enhance platform capabilities.

You may be a great fit if:

You are a skilled professional with a strong background in microscopy or biomedical sciences, possessing excellent technical abilities and a passion for supporting cutting-edge research through advanced imaging technologies.

You may also:

  • Hold a degree in biomedical sciences, physics, or a related field with relevant experience in microscopy.
  • Have hands-on experience with various optical microscopy techniques, including confocal and super-resolution microscopy.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective user training and support.
  • Be highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.

Your new team - School of Biomedical Sciences

As part of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences since 2015, the School comprises three Departments, Departments of Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemistry and Pharmacology, and Microbiology and Immunology. It has 85 research groups across the three departments, awarding-winning teachers and more than 2500 equivalent full-time student enrolments each year.
