About the role:
We are seeking a Behaviour Support Specialist that will play a pivotal role in fostering an evidence-based, progressive practice culture across the school. This role is instrumental in enhancing the skills and knowledge of staff through contemporary methods, theories, and practices that promote safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments. The goal is to support student wellbeing and improve their capacity to engage meaningfully in learning.
As a subject matter expert in positive behaviour support, the Behavioural Specialist will identify the underlying causes of behavioral challenges and design targeted strategies, and intervention plans to address them effectively.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing best-practice models within a multi-tiered system of supports.
Managing a caseload, including:
- Developing individualised Behaviour Support Plans.
- Providing direct therapeutic or behavioural interventions.
- Collaborating closely with families, school staff, and external professionals.
Ensuring accurate documentation and reporting.
Designing and delivering professional learning opportunities that build staff capability in positive behaviour support.
- Contributing to strategic, school-wide initiatives and policies that promote positive behaviour and inclusion.
This position is central to shaping a proactive and responsive approach to behaviour support across the school community.
Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in appropriate Allied Health discipline.
- Registration or accreditation with relevant professional body (AHPRA)
- Training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
- Current National Police check (or a willingness to obtain one).
- Current Working with Children Check (or a willingness to obtain one).
Essential Skills and Competencies
Allied Health Team Member
- Experience in delivering coaching and professional development.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster a respectful and collaborative team culture.
- Advanced skills in functional behavioural assessment, behaviour support planning and intervention design.
- Ability to interpret data and produce meaningful behavioural analysis reports
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and person-centred practices.
Communication and Collaboration
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder engagement
- Ability to work collaboratively with school leadership and other professionals and multiple stakeholders to support student wellbeing
- Skilled in conflict resolution and providing evidence-based advice.
Organisational and Strategic Thinking
- Strong planning and coordination abilities to manage service delivery across multiple stakeholders
- Capacity to align allied health services with broader school policies and strategic goals
- Experience in managing transition and developing Individual Learning Plans
