Step up to the challenge and lead at the frontline of Victoria's energy safety regulator. The evolving energy landscape of renewable generation, storage, electrification, and emerging technologies brings both exciting opportunities and heightened expectations from government, industry, and the community.
To meet this challenge, we are seeking an exceptional executive to drive our public affairs strategy and lead our integrated Public Affairs Division. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), you will play a pivotal role in strengthening public confidence, supporting industry understanding, and ensuring our regulatory mandate is transparent, accessible, and trusted.
About the opportunity
You'll play a vital part in:
Leading the development and execution of a forward-thinking public affairs strategy that aligns with Energy Safe's vision, mission, and statutory obligations.
Shaping and overseeing all external engagement functions—including marketing and communications, stakeholder partnerships, industry education, and community services—ensuring they are future-ready, responsive, and compliant.
Champion, contemporary service provision, transparency and accountability, fostering strong relationships with government, industry, and the public to ensure regulatory obligations are clearly understood and effectively met.
Drive innovation and excellence across licensing operations, certificates of electrical safety oversight, complaints and public enquiries, ensuring service delivery meets evolving business and community needs.
This is a highly visible role where you will provide strategic advice to the CEO, the Commission and the ELT, lead crisis and issues communication, and directly influence how Energy Safe maintains public trust, stakeholder alignment, and sector-wide compliance.
About you
We are looking for a respected leader and strategic partner with:
- Proven experience leading integrated communications, marketing campaigns, engagement, or public affairs in a complex government or regulatory environment.
- Strong policy and regulatory acumen with the ability to anticipate emerging issues and influence decision-makers.
- A track record of turning policy and regulatory change into practical, user-friendly guidance and communications.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, including experience engaging with Ministers' offices, industry leaders, and community/consumer advocacy groups.
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing, multidisciplinary teams, and deliver measurable outcomes.
