Position Overview:

The Communication Liaison Officer at Uniqlo Australia plays a pivotal role in facilitating seamless communication between Uniqlo Japan, Uniqlo Australia, and external stakeholders. This position is responsible for providing expert interpretation services during meetings between Uniqlo Japan and Uniqlo Australia and translation of companies' documentation and learning and operational materials based on awareness of overall business context. The Communication Liaison Officer ensures that language barriers are overcome, fostering successful collaboration and optimal business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate Japanese-English interpretation during meetings and events involving Uniqlo Japan and Uniqlo Australia. Deliver timely, high-quality translations of business, learning materials, reports, and meeting content to ensure clear communication for all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist the COO by providing interpretation during meetings between Uniqlo Australia and Uniqlo Japan, as well as preparing necessary translation of business-related materials and documents.. Facilitate effective dialogue and relationship-building by bridging language and cultural gaps, as well as providing strong organizational support based on business context understanding.
  • Demonstrate fluency in Japanese, English languages. Maintain a strong command of grammar, terminology, and cultural nuances in all languages to ensure effective communication.
  • Be fluent with relevant subject matter, industry-specific jargon, and cultural intricacies to enhance the quality and precision of interpretation. Prepare necessary materials and vocabulary lists in advance to facilitate smooth communication.
  • Exhibit a deep understanding of Japanese, Australian, cultures to enable seamless interaction between stakeholders. Adjust communication style as necessary to align with cultural norms and expectations.
  • Uphold the highest level of confidentiality in handling sensitive information exchanged during meetings. Adhere to ethical standards and professional conduct while managing proprietary and confidential matters.
  • Provide post-meeting summaries and documentation when required, ensuring that key discussions, decisions, and action items are accurately documented and shared with relevant parties. Provide translation services for document related preparation and submission, including but not limited to official reports to authorities, internal reports to Global Headquarters, visa related applications for business-related purposes, etc.
  • Actively solicit feedback from meeting participants and stakeholders to continuously enhance interpretation and translation quality. Adapt to feedback and refine interpretation and translation techniques to achieve optimal communication outcomes.
  • Communicate with Management, Departments' Leaders and Global Headquarters to determine training needs and schedule training sessions within the organization
  • Proactively learn the best practice from other business units of Fast Retailing and Global Headquarters materials, creating and updating training tools to achieve company KPIs.
  • Execute necessary support in career related events in the Company and make sure global evaluation materials are properly translated, adapted and used
  • Plan Company-wide events and participation in international conferences
  • Foster communication to promote concurrent work
  • Participate in managing relevant budgets and expenses
  • Collaborate with different department to achieve both department and company KPIs
  • Understand all business policies and procedures

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Proficiency in spoken and written Japanese, English languages.
  • Proven experience in interpretation and translation, preferably in a corporate or business setting.
  • Strong knowledge of Uniqlo's business operations, brand identity and philosophy, industry-specific terminology, and cultural contexts.
  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening and clear articulation.
  • Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to bridge communication gaps across diverse cultures.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure, handling multiple meetings and assignments simultaneously.
  • Ethical conduct and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Flexibility to accommodate varying time zones for international meetings.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in linguistics, translation, international relations, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience as an interpreter in a business context is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the fashion or retail industry is a plus.

Location:

  • The position is based in Melbourne, Australia, with occasional travel as required for interstate and/or international meetings.
