About the role:

As the Developer Relations Lead at Tyro, you will be accountable for making Tyro's APIs a world-class product in their own right. You will shape and own the full developer journey from docs discovery, navigation, design standards, tutorials, and community engagement.

This role blends vision setting, hands-on technical expertise, product evangelism, and commercial acumen. You will be the "voice of the developer" for Tyro, ensuring APIs are simple, consistent, and valuable. Externally, you will be the face of Tyro to POS partner developers, ISV developers, and enterprise developers building trust and enthusiasm for our platform.

Your work spans end-to-end: ensuring APIs meet the real needs of merchants and POS providers; designing and delivering an outstanding developer portal; writing documentation that is contemporary, engaging, and brand-aligned; and building a developer community presence for Tyro across events, social media, and digital channels.

What you'll do:

Developer Experience & Advocacy

  • Own and continuously improve the full developer journey for Tyro APIs: sandbox, onboarding, versioning, error handling, and support mechanisms.

  • Be the "voice of the developer" for Tyro, influencing API design, standards, and usability.

  • Write, maintain, and publish API documentation, tutorials, and SDKs that appeal to both scrappy startups and large enterprise partners.

Community & Evangelism

  • Act as Tyro's API evangelist, speaking at partner events, meetups, and conferences.

  • Build Tyro's developer presence through blogs, videos, social media, and other channels.

  • Create content (e.g. YouTube demos, LinkedIn posts) that simplifies complex payments concepts and shows Tyro's value to partners and merchants.

Commerce & Partner Alignment

  • Ground developer experience in real-world commerce: POS flows, settlement, chargebacks, interchange, and merchant economics.

  • Partner with Product and Commercial teams to shape API propositions that drive adoption and revenue.

  • Translate technical features into clear business value for POS partners and merchants.

Collaboration & Influence

  • Partner closely with engineering, product, and marketing to ensure consistent API standards and messaging.

  • Gather developer feedback and convert it into actionable improvements for product and engineering teams.

  • Build internal alignment so APIs are treated as first-class products, not just interfaces.

What you'll bring:

  • A strong technical background with hands-on experience in API design, developer tools, and modern DX practices (OpenAPI, Postman, SDKs).

  • Proven ability to write clear, engaging documentation and produce content for both technical and business audiences.

  • Familiarity with payments and commerce: acquiring, POS integrations, interchange, settlement flows, merchant economics.

  • A strong track record in developer advocacy or developer experience roles ideally in fintech, payments, or SaaS.

  • A public presence (blogging, video, social media, conference speaking) that demonstrates ability to simplify technical/financial concepts.

  • Strong communication and influencing skills. Able to bridge engineers, product managers, partners, and commercial teams.

  • An energetic, curious, and customer-obsessed personality that fits Tyro's culture of ownership and innovation.

What's in it for you?

We've worked hard to create an environment that's big on diversity, inclusion, and flexibility, and one that suits the changing needs of team members across Australia. Here are just some of the things Tyros tell us they love about working here.

You'll also receive:

  • A mix of in-office and remote working

  • Learning and career development opportunities

  • 16 weeks paid primary carers leave

  • 12 weeks paid secondary carers leave

  • Annual team-based volunteer day

  • Weekly team social events, snacks, craft beer and wine, ping pong and video games

  • Taco Tuesdays
