Your passion for leadership will be reflected in your ability to organise, supervise, and mentor a high-performing legal team, ensuring client-focused and culturally safe services. Our leaders are adaptive, collaborative, and committed to continuous improvement, balancing complex legal practice with strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement, and community connection.

Each day you can expect to:

  • Provide leadership and management of legal services, staff, and resources within the Care & Protection/Family Law Practice, implementing policies and best practices that support culturally safe and client-centred service delivery.
  • Supervise and support legal team members through recruitment, induction, performance management, professional development, and resource allocation to achieve consistent, efficient, and high-quality outcomes.
  • Deliver expert legal advice and representation in Care & Protection and Family Law matters, appearing in court as necessary to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including courts, government agencies, and community organisations, to enhance service delivery and promote legal excellence.
  • Develop and oversee a Community Legal Education (CLE) program tailored to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities within the Practice area.

  • Represent ALS in law reform, policy development, and relevant external forums, contributing to the broader advancement of justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Who Are We Looking For?

You will be a skilled and motivated legal professional with a strong understanding of the cultural and social needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You hold a current NSW Practising Certificate and have significant experience in care and protection and/or family law legal practice.

We are particularly interested in candidates with:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with clients, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, ethics, and cultural protocols.
