Training Development Officer (TDO)
Victorian Basic Paediatric Training Consortium (VBPTC)
Classification: AO5  — Health & Allied Services EA 2021–2025
Employment type: 0.4–0.6 FTE (fixed term to 31 December 2027)
Location: Flexible across Victoria (work from your home health service + WFH), with some travel and occasional after-hours commitments
Engagement model: Secondment only — you must currently be employed by a Victorian public health service

About VBPTC
Established by the Department of Health in 2021, the VBPTC is Victoria's sole consortium for basic paediatric training, spanning 2 tertiary, 9 outer-metropolitan and 10 rural hospitals. Our goals are to deliver high-quality accredited training, expand rural training pathways, and link training outcomes to community need and employment opportunities.
The opportunity
We're seeking a collaborative, education-focused TDO to help us deliver a consistent, high-quality training and education experience for basic paediatric trainees across Victoria. You'll work closely with the Consortium Management Team, Directors of Paediatric Education (DPEs) and Medical Education Officers (MEOs) at all sites to coordinate statewide educational offerings and support exam preparation.
What you'll do
Keep trainees and supervisors up to date with RACP (paediatrics) mandatory education requirements.
Map and share educational opportunities across all Consortium sites, ensuring ERS (Extended Rural Stream) trainees have access to centralised learning.
Lead communications with supervisors (e.g., checklists, newsletters, and providing HoDs with trainee/DPE/supervisor lists).
Support exam preparation for the RACP Divisional Written and Clinical Exams: promote the College Lecture Series, run Q&A sessions, plan and facilitate the annual boot camp, and prepare the long-case roster.
Provide coordination/admin support for monthly DPE meetings; allocate basic trainees to DPEs and Educational Supervisors.
Assist the Statewide Coordinator with network accreditation and contribute to required Department of Health reporting.
Maintain and edit the education content on the VBPTC website; evaluate programs with trainees and sites.
Attend key events (e.g., annual Information & Welcome evenings, quarterly Statewide Governance Committee).
About you
Experience in education and/or training programs (ideally in medical/health).
Familiarity with the paediatric training program in Australia.
Confident using technology to deliver and coordinate education at scale.
Able to drive a statewide approach and build collegiate relationships at all levels.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
Discretion in handling confidential/sensitive information.
