About The Role

We're looking for a creative and motivated Programs & Activities Officer to join our team at Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre. If you have a background in education, fitness, training, or cooking/culinary arts, this is your chance to share your skills in a meaningful way - supporting detainees to build confidence, learn, and grow.

You'll deliver practical, skills-based sessions that support detainee wellbeing and engagement. From life skills to cooking programs, you'll help design and facilitate activities that make a real difference.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Delivering and supporting group programs and life skills activities
  • Facilitating education, training, or practical workshops (e.g. cooking)
  • Contributing to inclusive, culturally sensitive program design
  • Providing feedback and supporting program reviews and improvements
  • Responding to emergency situations professionally and safely
  • Maintaining program spaces, equipment and documentation
  • Supporting detainees to build capacity and self-management
Key Requirements:

You're approachable, energetic, and passionate about sharing your skills to help others. You enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds and have a calm, professional manner in dynamic environments.

  • Certificate III qualification in sports, recreation, learning and development, ethnic affairs or similar (mandatory)
  • Current First Aid & CPR
  • Proven COVID vaccination (min. two vaccination)
  • Ability to pass an Australian Federal Police Check
  • Availability to work across the seven days of the week
