Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Health Centre Manager (HCM). This position is well suited to someone who is eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a general Registered Nurse or Senior Aboriginal Health Practitioner with no restrictions and possess a current practicing certificate, with an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities.

Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Boardis an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.

About the Opportunity

The Health Centre Manager (HCM) is responsible for the coordination of day-to-day operations and systems management of primary health care services and the after-hours

emergency care service.The HCM is required to provide high level support and culturally competent clinical leadership and supervision to the Health Centre team. This position is a leadership role that is required to maintain health systems, provide education and training to staff, role model KWHB values and encourage positive community health

action.

Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Partner with other health professionals and relevant external stakeholders to ensure an interprofessional, collaborative, and multi-agency approach to health care is achieved when appropriate.
  • Work effectively with Aboriginal Health Coaches and Trainee Health Coaches and ensure integration of the role within the broader primary health care team.
  • Lead the team in the orientation of new staff to the organisation's philosophy, policies and procedures, and health centre functions to promote effective and harmonious teamwork.
  • Be responsible for the cold chain management of vaccines and coordination of infection control practices with the support of the health centre team.
  • Participate in performance management and professional development programs in collaboration with KWHB management for health centre staff.
