About GRAI

Established in 2005, GRAI (GLBTI Rights in Ageing Inc) is a community-controlled, culturally safe, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to protecting the rights and wellbeing of older LGBTI people. We are the only organisation in Australia focused exclusively on ensuring older LGBTI individuals are safe, welcomed, and respected wherever they are.

For over 20 years, GRAI has proudly amplified the voices of older LGBTI people, ensuring visibility and improving quality of life. As a peer-led organisation, we bring lived experience to everything we do, working alongside our community to foster dignity, connection, and inclusion.

We are one of only four LGBTQIA+ organisations funded by the WA Government to deliver services to the community, a responsibility we hold with both pride and accountability. Strong governance underpin all our work, ensuring that we remain trusted leaders in advancing the rights of older LGBTI people.

About the role

The Board Secretary plays a vital role in strengthening GRAI's governance by managing board administration, compliance, and record-keeping. This is a paid position under the SCHADS Award (approx. $45/hr), with superannuation and salary sacrifice options available. The role requires around 10 hours per month, offering flexibility while contributing to meaningful and impactful work.

We particularly encourage applications from members of the LGBTI community aged 50 years and over, recognising the value of lived experience, resilience, and intergenerational leadership.

What you'll bring

  • Experience in a similar Board Secretary or Executive Assistant role, ideally within the not-for-profit or public sector
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare accurate and high-quality board papers, minutes, and documentation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with board management platforms and minute-taking software (e.g. TidyHQ)
  • A solid understanding of governance principles and best practice
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with the Board, Executive Officer, and external stakeholders

Note: Applicants must meet ACNC Governance Standard 4 requirements, including not being disqualified from managing corporations or currently bankrupt.

What we offer

  • Flexible part-time role of approx. 10 hours per month
  • Hourly rate of approx. $45/hr plus 12% superannuation and salary sacrifice options
  • The chance to contribute to an organisation making a tangible difference in the lives of older LGBTI people
  • A welcoming, supportive, and community-minded environment

A personal note

At GRAI, we know that lived experience matters. We warmly welcome applications from those who have walked the path of advocacy, community leadership, or navigating ageing as an LGBTI person. We encourage applications from across the LGBTQIA+ community and Allies, with a particular welcome to First Nations people, people with disability, and transgender and gender diverse individuals. Your perspective and voice will be valued here.
