The Role
We are currently offering a rare opportunity to join our highly reputable team of Medicolegal Occupational Therapists. We are open to offering full-time or part-time positions.
Medicolegal Occupational Therapy allows you to bring together your existing clinical experience and apply it within a medicolegal framework — producing high-quality reports that personal injury lawyers use to help their clients achieve fair and equitable outcomes.
The tasks performed by a Medicolegal OT typically include:
- Performing assessments and functional capacity evaluations of injured clients
- Formulating opinions regarding the impact of injuries on clients' activities of daily living and work capacity
- Providing recommendations for assistive aids, equipment, home and vehicle modifications, and future rehabilitation or intervention
- Producing high-quality, detailed reports that objectively summarise findings and provide evidence-based recommendations for legal and compensation purposes
Travel is a key and rewarding aspect of this role. You'll have the opportunity to visit clients across Queensland, including regional and rural locations such as Cairns, Mackay, Bundaberg, and beyond. Our Medicolegal OTs enjoy a mix of in-rooms, in-home, and offsite assessments — with all travel fully supported and coordinated by our administration team. For those who enjoy variety and connection, this travel also provides a valuable opportunity to build relationships with local referrers, law firms, and other stakeholders — helping expand MLEA's presence while deepening your professional networks.
As a Medicolegal Expert, you will have the opportunity to develop strong relationships with your referrers and establish rapport with a diverse range of clients. You'll contribute to the continued growth of the business through relationship building, professional networking, and maintaining the high-quality standards that MLEA is known for.
If medicolegal work is new to you, don't worry — you'll work alongside and learn from our team of experienced Medicolegal Experts, who will support you every step of the way. We offer a comprehensive onboarding program and extensive training materials to ensure you are confident and well-prepared in your role.
About You
- Qualified and Registered; AHPRA registration as an OT is a must.
- Minimum 3 years in a clinical setting
- Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication skills, including excellent report writing skills (your Cover Letter is your opportunity to showcase your written communication skills)
- Be a fantastic communicator in all aspects
- Strong attention to detail
What's it like to work at MLEA?
As passionate as we are about helping our clients, we are equally as passionate about ensuring the personal and professional fulfilment of all our team members. From your first day at MLEA you will see that work-life balance takes precedence here. We understand the cognitive and emotional fatigue that can come with allied-health work and as such, we actively practice wellness strategies at both team and individual levels.
We discourage overtime and encourage self-care and all things wellness - whatever that looks like for you. Need to finish early to make that gym class? Go for it. Need to work from home to support family? Of course. Need to swap days to make that dance performance? Absolutely - can we come? As a team, we participate in stress-down days (wear-your-pyjamas-to-work days), charity events and community activities (e.g. Bridge to Brisbane, Walk for Awareness), and enjoy regular social events together throughout the year. Our annual Christmas in July party is a staff favourite (yes that's 2 Christmas parties each year). We are all each other's biggest supporters in everything we do.
