The RMIT UP Foundation Studies Program is delivered to an Australian Year 12 comparable standard. It is nationally recognised as a program that equips international students with the skills and capabilities to seek entry into higher education programs in Australia. This program is designed to prepare students for a seamless transition into a range of higher education programs. It develops a mix of discipline knowledge, academic English and study skills in a supportive, flexible and learner-centred environment. It aims to assist students to become independent, critical and lifelong learners and to maximise their potential for success in an Australian university context.

About the role

In this position, you will be responsible for the teaching delivery of RMIT UP's Foundation Studies Psychology course. Duties include assessment, monitoring academic progress of students, contributing to the development of the Foundation Studies curriculum and providing an outstanding student experience.

This course is designed to introduce Foundation STEM students to Psychology as a systematic study of people's thoughts, feelings and behaviour with an emphasis on developing analytical and problem-solving skills in a range of situations.

Key subject themes include:

  • Understanding the structure and function of the brain and human nervous system analysing the impact of stress on the body.
  • Consciousness, the purpose and nature of sleep, and the effects of sleep disruption

    on a person's functioning.
  • The concepts of mental health including phobia management approaches.
  • Research, analytical and reporting methods related to the investigation of mental processes and psychological functioning.

About You

To be successful in this position you will have:

Essential

  • A recognised degree relevant to the course being taught plus:

  • A formal qualification in the delivery of education and/or demonstrated teaching expertise in a second discipline area, OR

    o A minimum of two years' relevant teaching experience, including a breadth of experience in delivering to students from non-English speaking backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in delivering and assessing Foundation Studies or equivalent courses

  • Capacity to identify learning problems in students, propose and implement effective strategies

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively as a constructive and proactive member of a team

  • Demonstrated skills in the use of relevant information and communication technologies

Desirable

  • Experience teaching in a Foundation Studies or a year 12 equivalent program educating international students;

  • Experience teaching in a tertiary setting.

  • TESOL (English Language Teaching Qualification) for teachers responsible for English subject areas.

  • Proven collegiality and the ability to share ideas

  • Knowledge of current pedagogical practices
