Presales Design Engineer – Battery Energy Storage (BESS)

Brisbane preferred (remote considered for East Coast cities)

We're looking for a technically skilled Design Engineer to join our growing team. This role sits at the intersection of engineering and sales – supporting EPCs, solar installers, and key channel partners with the technical expertise needed to design, model, and deliver high-performing battery energy storage systems (BESS) across residential, commercial & industrial (C&I), and off-grid markets.

As the technical bridge between our customers and the sales team, you'll bring projects to life – shaping system designs, running techno-economic models, preparing single line diagrams (SLDs), and contributing to compelling proposals and tenders.

If you've cut your teeth in EPC project delivery and want to leverage that experience in a pre-sales environment with a leading BESS manufacturer, this role is for you.

What you'll do
  • Partner with the sales team and key accounts to understand customer needs, site conditions, and project challenges.
  • Provide pre-sales technical support for EPCs and large solar installers, including feasibility studies, system design input, and customer presentations.
  • Build techno-economic models using tools such as Orkestra and Gridcog, ensuring solutions are both technically sound and commercially competitive.
  • Prepare BOMs, pricing analysis, SLDs, layouts, and schematics in line with CEC guidelines, Australian Standards, and grid/off-grid requirements.
  • Support tender submissions with high-quality technical content and provide clarifications during evaluations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to ensure proposed solutions are viable and optimised.
  • Keep across evolving standards, competitor offerings, and market trends to keep our solutions best-in-class.
What you'll bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related discipline.
  • 3–5 years' experience delivering solar and/or battery projects in C&I or off-grid environments.
  • Background in EPC project design, delivery, or commissioning (essential).
  • Bonus points for pre-sales or applications engineering experience with another BESS manufacturer.
  • Proficiency in system modelling tools (Orkestra, Gridcog, or similar).
  • Ability to design and interpret SLDs and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of grid interconnection, AS/NZS standards, CEC compliance, and battery safety.
  • Strong communication skills – able to translate complex technical concepts into simple, clear solutions for customers.
