We're looking for a BESS Design Engineer to join our Brisbane engineering team. This is a technically challenging, high-impact role where you'll take the lead in designing utility-scale solar and integrated energy storage projects that meet grid, safety, and client requirements. You'll be central to improving system architectures, delivering detailed electrical designs, and supporting projects from tender through to commissioning.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and optimisation of BESS system architecture, including inverters, transformers, HVAC, SCADA, and EMS.
  • Prepare and review SLDs, control schematics, cable schedules, and grounding/protection designs.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Australian and international standards (IEEE, UL, NFPA, NER).
  • Support DNSP connection applications, grid interconnection studies, and due diligence reporting.
  • Develop technical specifications, datasheets, and tender documents.
  • Review vendor/subcontractor design packages and support procurement during technical bid evaluations.
  • Provide engineering input during construction and commissioning phases, including FAT/SAT support.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers in best practice design and compliance.

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years' experience in BESS design engineering (or similar).
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory).
  • Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM Power Tools, PSCAD, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of battery chemistries, degradation factors, and inverter/PCS operation.
  • Familiarity with EMS and SCADA protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC
  • Proven ability to manage project deadlines and deliver high-quality outputs.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
