Primary objective

To assist Centralian Middle School students to achieve successful educational outcomes through high level attendance and

effective communication with students, families, staff, partner programs and appropriate service agencies.

Context statement

Centralian Middle School is the only public middle school in Alice Springs. It has a multicultural enrolment of approximately

350, including 65% Indigenous students. The Home Liaison Officer will provide support to students, family members,

teachers, administration staff and leadership to help our learners attend regularly, engage positively and achieve learning

outcomes.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Contribute to developing a caring and supportive environment for students to achieve improved education outcomes by

working with students, families, staff and outside agencies to maximise attendance and notification of unexplained

absences.

  1. To establish and promote positive rapport between school and families through home visits of students who are

experiencing difficulty with aspects of their schooling, assisting, and supporting students and their families to overcome

barriers.

  1. To assist and support the school principal, attendance and wellbeing teams with the development of a harmonious school

environment that is culturally inclusive and works to actively engage and empower students and their families.

  1. To liaise, assist, promote and support the establishment of sustainable networks which link families, students, schools,

Indigenous organisations and government agencies.

  1. Provide administrative and professional support services in keeping with the primary objective of the position.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience and skill in working with young people in an educational or other supportive environment.

2. Proven ability to communicate effectively with parents, staff, students, and officers from other agencies and from diverse

cultures.

3. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and effectively part of a team to assist in the planning, coordination,

implementation and monitoring of strategies and programs to positively contribute to student attendance, wellbeing, and

learning.

  1. Proven ability to work with initiative, independence, complete confidentiality, and the ability to organise and prioritise

workload.

  1. Proven ability in the use of Microsoft Office and student data management systems such as Compass, SAMS or similar.
  2. Current NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) and NT Driver's License or the ability to obtain in a timely

manner.
