Primary objective
Lead and advocate for the speech pathology workforce to achieve excellence in clinical safety, efficiency, quality improvement and innovation,
through implementation of clinical governance systems and supports, across NT Health in line with the priorities of the Office of the Chief Allied
Health Officer (OCAHO).
Context Statement
The OCAHO provides system level leadership, strategic advice and advocacy on matters affecting the allied health workforce on both local and
national levels across a wide range of issues including workforce planning, service models of care development, clinical education, safety and
quality, regulation and governance. In NT Health, integrated allied health services are provided in a number of settings including acute and sub-
acute care, primary health care, aged care and mental health.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Apply advanced speech pathology clinical and leadership skills and knowledge to contribute to the safety, efficiency and quality of clinical
service provision across NT Health, in line with NT Health Strategic Plan
2. Apply highly developed, evidence-based knowledge of clinical service delivery, to inform innovative approaches to inter and intra professional
service delivery and multi-disciplinary models of care across NT Health.
3. Establish an NT Health wide profession-specific network, collaborate with managers and clinicians to provide leadership in pursuit of
consistent, safe, and effective clinical service provision across NT Health.
4. Provide guidance regarding the planning and coordination of allied health profession specific clinical placements to optimise NT Health
placement capacity and ensure implementation of contemporary student placement models and practice.
- Assess and monitor the training needs of staff and facilitate continuing professional development to ensure required skills and knowledge are
optimised to deliver appropriate, safe and quality clinical services.
6. Initiate and manage relevant clinical governance systems and supports and comply with relevant health policies.
- Provide advice and consult regarding speech pathology workforce and service development, and advocate for NT Health allied health
workforce needs.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to
ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Hold a relevant allied health qualification that meets membership eligibility requirements of the relevant profession, and registration for
practice with the relevant Health Board of Australia (if applicable).
- Demonstrated high level knowledge and experience leading professional and/or multi-disciplinary teams including high level skills in written
and verbal communication, liaison, negotiation and conflict management skills.
3. Highly developed knowledge, skills and experience in working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and
contemporary issues they face.
4. Extensive experience and commitment to professional practice supervision, continuous professional development, education, teaching,
research, and continuous quality improvement
- Experience in the planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of allied health services in a public health setting.
Desirable
1. Relevant leadership or management post graduate qualifications.
