About the role
The Senior Legislation Editing and Access Officer performs a range of straightforward to moderately complex editorial, production and publishing tasks using specialised software applications, including editing draft legislation, notifying made legislation, updating the legislation database and producing the NSW Government Gazette. The role also assists the director and team managers with other editing and access services, training and developing more junior team members, maintaining procedures and related documents, and contributing to strategic system development and project work.

Essential Requirements
- Well-developed language, writing and editorial skills, and some understanding of Parliamentary and other legislative processes, and legislative concepts and standards
- Experience working as a member of an inter-dependent professional and high-performing team
- Knowledge of the software applications typically used for legislative production and access, preferably SGML/XML, and the ability to use the customised database systems required to manage office workflows and access operations for the legislation website
- Ability to develop the specialist skills required to edit draft legislation, produce up-to-date and approved versions of legislation and the Government Gazette, and conduct thorough legislative research
- Ability to prepare and deliver training on specialist editorial and publishing work and processes

The Parliamentary Counsel's Office (PCO) is headed by the Parliamentary Counsel and is a Public Service executive agency related to The Cabinet Office under the Government Sector Employment Act 2013.
What we do
We are responsible for drafting and providing access to most of the legislation for New South Wales. We draft all Bills for Acts required for introduction into Parliament. We also draft a wide range of statutory instruments, including regulations, rules, proclamations, orders and environmental planning instruments (EPIs). For more information about the PCO, click here.
