**The Opportunity**
Do you have a passion for research and a desire to improve the lives of children with an intellectual disability and their families?
Join our Child Disability team at The Kids Research Institute Australia who is a consortium member of the newly funded national Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health (the Centre). The Centre is a new major initiative supported by the Australian Government, Department of Health and Aged Care, commencing in 2023. The Centre is led by UNSW Sydney (Medicine and Health) together with a consortium comprising of over 20 health and disability sector partners and 36 collaborating organisations, with the aim to ensure that best practice and timely healthcare are available for people with an intellectual disability.
Our contribution will be driven by the importance of ensuring Aboriginal perspectives are enabled throughout the work. To support our work within the Aboriginal path of the project, we are looking for someone with lived experience or an interest to learn about the field of child disability.
You will be working alongside an experienced team and have opportunities to be involved in a range of activities, such as:
- Create resources for clinicians and communities; build relationships with Aboriginal Elders, communities, and service providers.
- Write research papers and presentations; translate findings into practice and ensure content is accessible for Aboriginal communities.
- Maintain procedures and databases; coordinate nationally with stakeholders; manage meetings and admin tasks; ensure ethical compliance.
- Act as a culturally competent link between staff, families, Elders, and communities.
- Communicate and collaborate with Centre of Excellence teams.
This position is for period of one year and can be either part time or full time.
**About You**
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and the ability to work with Aboriginal and culturally diverse people.
- Experience with writing documents and reports.
- Highly developed interpersonal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
- Commitment to inclusion of people with intellectual disability and their caregivers in the research projects.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Good time management skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially NVivo, Outlook, Word, Excel, Endnote, and PowerPoint).
