Job Description
The Accounts Officer will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of Wardan Group, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, payments, and reconciliations. This hands-on position is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who enjoys working in a structured and fast-paced construction or property development environment and wants to further develop their accounting and systems experience.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable (AP)
- Process supplier invoices, purchase orders, and payment runs accurately and on time.
- Match invoices to project codes and ensure correct approvals before posting.
- Reconcile supplier statements each month and follow up on any missing invoices or discrepancies.
- Maintain supplier master data and respond to payment and invoice queries professionally.
Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Prepare and issue client invoices and progress claims in line with contract milestones.
- Record customer receipts and allocate payments accurately.
- Monitor debtor balances and prepare weekly AR ageing reports.
- Follow up on overdue accounts and assist with debt collection processes.
Bank & Statement Reconciliations
- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations for all company accounts.
- Reconcile credit card, supplier, and intercompany statements, ensuring all variances are resolved promptly.
- Assist with month-end reconciliations of key general ledger accounts, including payroll clearing, GST, and petty cash.
Payroll & Employee Payments
- Process end-to-end payroll for office and site staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance with awards and company policies.
- Maintain employee records, timesheets, leave, superannuation, and PAYG data.
- Assist with payroll reconciliations, reporting, and payment of superannuation and payroll tax.
- Prepare payment files for approval and release through online banking platforms.
Payments & Cash Flow Support
- Prepare weekly and monthly supplier and payroll payment batches for authorisation.
- Assist the finance team with daily cash flow tracking and funding requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of all payments, including remittances and approval documentation.
Project & Cost Support
- Assist with cost coding and ensure all transactions are accurately allocated to the correct project or cost centre.
- Generate and distribute project financial reports from Jobpac or similar ERP systems.
Compliance & Reporting
- Support BAS, PAYG, superannuation, and payroll tax preparation and lodgement.
- Assist with month-end close processes and provide supporting reconciliations for internal and external audits.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and suggest improvements to streamline AP/AR, payroll, and reconciliation processes.
- Ensure compliance with financial procedures, company policies, and audit requirements
Skills and Experience
- Certificate IV, Diploma, or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or Finance.
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a similar role, ideally within construction, engineering, or property development.
- Experience using Jobpac, Procore, or similar ERP/accounting software is highly regarded.
- Proficient in Excel (reconciliations, reporting, and data analysis).
- High attention to detail and accuracy with strong organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
