About the Business Unit:

Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) is part of the Police, Victims, Racing and Coordination Group within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). VSSR is responsible for the delivery and reform of services to victims of crime, placing victims at the centre of the justice system. In addition to providing direct services to victims of crime, VSSR leads the development and implementation of victim-related policy and program innovation within DJCS and across government. This includes working closely with other areas of DJCS, Justice entities, other government departments and external stakeholders.

VSSR's Restorative Justice for Victims of Crime program includes the Family Violence Restorative Justice Service and Victim Support for Youth Justice Group Conferencing.

About the Role:

The Restorative Engagement Convenor works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders (including institutional representatives and the external facilitator panel who deliver Restorative Engagement processes associated with redress schemes operated by VSSR) to support the overall operation of VSSR's restorative programs.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Facilitating and managing safe, effective restorative engagement processes that meet the needs of Redress Scheme participants
  • Working with participants to understand their restorative goals, identify if restorative engagement is right for them and manage expectations
  • Creating a space for participants to access their own agency; empower and support them to make choices and take action.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Understanding of restorative justice practice, theories and processes and practical experience in facilitating restorative justice processes
  • Understanding of the nature, dynamics and impacts of gendered violence and institutional harm
  • An understanding of the unique considerations of victim-centred restorative justice and trauma informed practice
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare well-written, timely, concise, accurate and audience-appropriate briefings and reports.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (such as Psychology, Social Work, Human Services or Law) and/or a minimum of five years in practice in a related field (such as restorative or group conferencing, , mediation and therapeutic justice) is required
  • Experience working in government and/or in victim support / case management would be desirable.
