About the Business Unit:

Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) is part of the Police, Victims, Racing and Coordination Group within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). VSSR is responsible for the delivery and reform of services to victims of crime, placing victims at the centre of the justice system. In addition to providing direct services to victims of crime, VSSR leads the development and implementation of victim-related policy and program innovation within DJCS and across government. This includes working closely with other areas of DJCS, Justice entities, other government departments and external stakeholders

VSSR's Restorative Justice for Victims of Crime program includes the Family Violence Restorative Justice Service and Victim Support for Youth Justice Group Conferencing.

About the Role:

The Senior Engagement Officer provides trauma-informed support to redress restorative engagement participants, ensuring they are supported at all stages of the process to realise an effective and meaningful restorative engagement outcome.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Supporting Redress scheme participants to safely and effectively participating in restorative processes by working with participants to identify if restorative engagement is right for them, linking participants with facilitators and institutional representatives and Support Services and supporting all parties through the restorative engagement process
  • Methodically planning, coordinating and recording all aspects of restorative engagement for participants in accordance with operational guidelines and anticipate issues and plan for these
  • Pro-actively building effective relationships with internal and external restorative engagement facilitators, and monitoring delivery of effective restorative engagement services aligned with relevant scheme guidelines and departmental contract and business requirements.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Understanding of restorative justice practise, theories, and processes
  • Practical experience in case management, facilitation, stakeholder engagement or program monitoring and evaluation within a program delivery context
  • Understanding of the nature, dynamics and impacts of gendered violence and institutional harm
  • Sound knowledge and experience in Government operational contexts and administrative processes and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare well-written, timely, concise, accurate and audience-appropriate briefings, reports and correspondence.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (such as Psychology, Social Work, Human Services or Law) and/or a minimum of five years in practice in a related field (such as restorative or group conferencing, family violence specialist services, family and community services, mediation and therapeutic justice) is required.
  • Experience working in government and/or in victim support / case management would be desirable.
