We are seeking a Governance and Records Officer to join our Governance team for a 12-month parental leave term coverage. This role plays a vital part in supporting good governance, compliance, and records management across the Town.

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Governance and Risk, you will:

  • Support the Town's governance and compliance functions, ensuring adherence to legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Administer and maintain statutory registers, policy reviews, delegations, and compliance reporting.
  • Manage the Town's records management systems and practices in line with the State Records Act 2000.
  • Provide advice and training to staff on recordkeeping procedures and governance processes.
  • Assist with Freedom of Information requests and Local Government Elections coordination.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and implementation of privacy and information-sharing frameworks.

About You

You are a highly organised and detail-oriented professional who brings strong governance, compliance, and information management expertise. You may have gained your experience in local government, the public sector or another regulated industry — what matters most is your ability to apply sound judgement, understand legislation, and uphold good governance practices.

You will bring:

  • Qualifications or experience in governance, business, legal, or records management.
  • Strong understanding of legislative and compliance frameworks (e.g. Local Government Act 1995, State Records Act 2000 or similar).
  • Proven ability to interpret legislation, policies, and procedures accurately.
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and a professional approach to sensitive information.
  • A collaborative mindset and adaptability when priorities shift.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement.
