About the role
Due to ongoing growth and investment in our network, we're excited to offer an opportunity for experienced Power System Workers (Electrical Fitters) to join our team based at the Brooklyn Depot. This position forms part of a specialised, field-based technical team responsible for delivering electrical services in alignment with defined performance standards. Emphasis is placed on technical proficiency, safe work practices, and timely service execution through effective planning and assessment.
The role centres on the frontline execution of tasks related to the maintenance, installation, and enhancement of electrical plant infrastructure, including assets within Zone and Distribution Substations. It plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and reliable electricity supply, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction, and optimising the use of skills and resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake the installation, maintenance, fault finding and repairs and basic testing of primary station equipment such as transformers, switchgear, etc.
- Undertake the installation fault finding and maintenance of secondary equipment such as control panel wiring, protection equipment, associated batteries and chargers
- Read, interpret and implement the provisions of manuals, construction and equipment drawings, standards, regulations, technical procedures and instructions
- Conduct electrical tests, interpret the results and write reports on tests of substation equipment such as circuit breakers, cables and transformers; Substation and associated air systems, distribution transformer and switchgear testing following overhaul and/or repair; earth testing, portable tool and equipment testing; voltage testing and fault finding in Substations. The use of megger, micro-meter and voltmeter and other specialised testing equipment such as sequence timers, profilers and ratiometers on cables and primary equipment is also required
- Carry out general metal fabrication and earth grid bonding using oxy/LPG cutting, brazing and welding and exothermic welding processes
- Undertake testing and treatment of oil in substations' equipment
- Undertake installation, maintenance and modifications to electrical wiring and equipment within buildings to appropriate Australian standards and regulations
- Operate plant such as crane and task trucks, EPV, forklift,, motor vehicle (car, LR & HR), hydraulic crimper, power presses and guillotines to cut, portable generators, pumps and any other plant that may be introduced into the Substations group in their construction and maintenance work
- Contribute to the planning, preparation and organisation of materials for jobs in order to meet cost-effective work performance targets
- Ensure all activities are undertaken in accordance with company safe working practices and procedures, WHS legislation, industry codes, specifications and standards
- Maintain a professional image at all times e.g. cleanliness of fleet, maintenance of fleet and equipment, uniforms, job site etc.
Key Criteria
- Working knowledge of electricity distribution network assets
- A detailed practical knowledge of metering and communications installation, testing and maintenance techniques
- A proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and the ability to be able to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
- Use current data transfer systems as set out by CPAL and external clients for collecting/receiving field-based information
- A commitment to the promotion of a safe working environment and work procedures
- Utilisation of company systems & processes required for the proficient use of works management, time entry and materials procurement
To progress, please ensure to provide the following:
- Certificate III in ESI – Electro Technology Electrician (UEE30811) or Australian equivalent qualification (compulsory for Victoria based candidates, no requirement to attach evidence as information is already included in ESI Worker)
- Energy Safe Victoria Electrician's License – A Class (compulsory)
- Statement of Attainment for Competency Standard Units (compulsory)
- Current Refresher Training records (compulsory)
- Construction Induction Card (compulsory)
- Current car license (compulsory)
- High Risk Licence (optional)
- Forklift / Heavy Vehicle Licence (optional)
- Switching training / authority (optional)
Note: Employment will be subject to the candidate successfully completing a pre-employment medical examination (which includes a hearing test, colour blindness and physical examination) as well as relevant drug and alcohol testing and to assess fitness for work, reference checks, as well as Entitlement to Work in Australia checks.
