The Role
Middleton Group is looking for a driven principal power systems engineer to lead Middleton Group's developing grid connection team. The principal power systems engineer is responsible for expert technical leadership of generator and grid connection projects including power systems modelling studies and analysis for new solar farm, wind farm, BESS and hybrid generator connections throughout Australia, using tools such as PSSE, PSCAD and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
Responsibility
- Proven track record of successful grid connections (R0, R1 and R2) within Australia with diverse generation technologies.
- An expert in the use / application of DigSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD and PSS/E, including coaching and supporting junior team members to create grid connection application packs.
- Thorough understanding of the generator connection process in Australia (Chapter 5 and 5A) and the obligations of each party (NSPs, AEMO, Proponent etc).
- An expert in one or more generator technologies such as synchronous (steam, hydro, gas etc) or asynchronous (solar PV, wind, BESS etc).
- The new leader of the power systems modelling team within Middleton Group, with ultimate responsibility for project sales and delivery.
Technical Depth & Breadth
- Consistently demonstrates extremely high levels of technical knowledge along with ingenuity and creativity, as evidenced in previous generator grid connection projects.
- Deep understanding of common technical errors in the generator studies field – apply this understanding to the internal review of work completed by the power systems modelling team.
- Broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of their specialty (for example, primary, control & protection etc)
Guidance / Initiative
- Acts independently at the top organizational level with outcomes reviewed by top company management.
- Sets goals for themselves and the team to win and deliver exceptional grid connection study packages.
Communication / Interpersonal Skills
- An expert in discussing and negotiating access standards with NSPs and AEMO, including creating concise and convincing reports and technical memos to provide justification.
- Take the lead in difficult conversations with project stakeholders through to resolution.
- Approachable by junior team members and clients alike. Understand client needs and provide convincing proposals to secure projects. Support the team to deliver to the clients need.

Education & Experience
Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) + minimum of 15 years of relevant experience.
