Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Occupational Therapist Grade 1 to join Hotham Street Community Mental Health Clinic Team.
About Mental Health Division:
Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern.

Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles.

We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.
Early Career Occupational Therapist Hotham Street Community Mental Health Clinic
On offer is a comprehensive two-year program that enables graduates and early career occupational therapists to consolidate and enhance their discipline specific knowledge and skills, and develop the necessary generic skills to provide evidence based care within public mental health services
The graduate allied health program is informed by the Occupational Therapy Gradate Competency standards, and through the entry level program you will be equipped with the confidence and competence to provide high standard, evidence-based, person-centred and recovery-focused care for consumers experiencing serious mental illness
About the Role:
This full-time program (with monthly ADO's) comprises of 12-month rotations in different clinical areas, as well as:
  • An extended comprehensive orientation
  • Protected learning time and graded workload
  • Regular Occupational Therapy supervision and monthly peer support sessions.
  • Regular training and education sessions tailored and targeted for early career clinicians in public mental health, accessing experts in a range of topics from family work, sensory modulation and supervision.
  • A peer network of graduate mental health occupational therapists & social workers across Northern Health.
  • Opportunity to participate in communities of practice such as sensory modulation, group work, promoting safe driving.
  • Transition support to continued employment at Grade 2 level towards the end of the two-year program

This role requires the Occupational Therapists to provide psychosocial rehabilitation to equip individuals with the daily living skills they require and support engagement in meaningful occupation
This role is responsible for Occupational therapy assessments, interventions and group work while gaining specialist skills and experience in psychiatric assessment, and the mental health clinician role

This is full time 2 year fixed term role working 80 hours per fortnight
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Recent graduates and graduates who will be completing their Bachelor or Masters level qualification in Occupational Therapy and eligibility for APRAH Registration
  • Occupational Therapists with less than 18 months experience seeking transition early in their career to a specialist mental health service.
  • An enthusiasm for building a career in the mental health field and an eagerness to make the most of the structured learning opportunities on offer.
  • Applicants who hold a full driver's licence.
