The Opportunity:
KBR is seeking a proactive and security-focused professional to join our Defence team as a Cyber Security Consultant. In this mission-critical role, you will support the delivery of secure and cyberworthy Defence capabilities across platform systems and simulators. Working closely with senior cyber specialists, you'll lead cyberworthiness governance and provide strategic advice to ensure ICT systems remain secure, compliant, and operationally ready.
You'll coordinate Assessment & Authorisation (A&A) activities, manage system documentation, and contribute to the development of cyber governance frameworks, risk management strategies, and assurance processes. Your work will help ensure alignment with Defence cyber policies and support operational readiness across major programs. Collaborating with Defence stakeholders and industry partners, you'll influence policy and deliver resilient, best-practice security solutions that strengthen Australia's national defence capability.
Responsibilities:
- Lead cyber governance across Defence platform systems and simulators, ensuring cyberworthiness and compliance.
- Provide strategic cyber security advice to support operational readiness for both sustainment and acquisition programs.
- Interpret and shape Defence cyber policy, contributing to the development of standards and guidelines.
- Coordinate Assessment & Authorisation (A&A) activities, including preparation of key documentation (SoA, SOD, SRMP, CMP).
- Engage with Defence cyber assessment bodies to support A&A execution and system accreditation.
- Support ICT system operations, ensuring secure and effective day-to-day management.
- Maintain cyberworthiness throughout the system lifecycle, from design to decommissioning.
- Conduct security risk assessments and business impact analyses to identify and mitigate threats.
- Deliver assurance activities to evaluate and strengthen Defence's ICT risk posture.
- Drive continuous improvement by developing and implementing cyber security strategies aligned with business outcomes.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across Defence, industry, and technical teams to enhance cyber security practices.
- Develop critical security artefacts for platform and simulator systems, supporting secure capability delivery.
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
- Demonstrated expertise in cyber security governance, risk management, and ICT system assurance within Defence or similarly regulated environments.
- Strong working knowledge of Defence cyberworthiness frameworks, A&A processes, and ICT lifecycle management.
- Proven ability to develop and manage system documentation and security artefacts.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- A track record of leading strategic initiatives and driving continuous improvement in cyber security delivery.
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Due to the nature of Defence work, applicants must be Australian citizens and hold an active NV1 security clearance.
