The Opportunity
As a Senior Urban Planner in the City of Perth, you will effectively and lawfully administers the provisions and requirements of the City Planning Scheme as well as related planning and development statutes and policies. This is a senior role that embraces a culture of teamwork, process improvement and respect. This occupant provides leadership and mentoring upon which the Planning team relies for: achieving professional development, quality assurance and excellence in customer service; whilst also meeting its statutory obligations and objectives for the timely and accurate preparation of applications for development approvals, subdivision and / or other approvals, as required under relevant statutes, City of Perth Local Laws, policies, guidelines and procedures.
Reporting to the Principal Urban Planner within our Development Approvals team, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Under limited direction, exercise leadership skills and provide general supervision and training in relation to:
- The Statutory Urban Planners and any Trainees or Graduates;
- The legislative requirements and interpretations, inspection processes and procedures required as part of the Statutory Planner role; and
- Effective operational and staff performance and professional development.
- Process complex to very complex applications for development and subdivision and other referrals from State Government agencies;
- Under broad direction, prepare comprehensive reports, recommendations and presentations (where required) to the City's Design Review Panel, Council and the Development Assessment Panel; and
- Provide a high level of expertise and specialist knowledge, through verbal and written advice, to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders on a variety of statutory urban planning and development issues.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
- Tertiary qualification in Town Planning;
- Proven achievement at a senior statutory planning level, processing very complex development applications relevant to a central city environment;
- Comprehensive understanding of the legislative responsibility and processes that relate to urban planning and local government; and
- Strong ability to effectively plan, organise and manage own time and workload, as well as the work of others, to achieve specific outcomes within set timeframes against conflicting priorities.
