About The National Breast Cancer Foundation
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia's leading not-for-profit organisation funding world-class breast cancer research towards our vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer. Since our inception in 1994, NBCF has invested over $200 million into more than 600 world-class research projects across Australia. Role responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director of Research in this exciting and newly created role, the Research Impact and Evaluation Manager will play a part in NBCF's vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.
You will design, rollout, and refine a suite of evaluation/impact frameworks to ensure that NBCF's investment across its grant portfolio (Collaborative Research Accelerators (CRAs), Research Project Grants (RPGs), and Pink Sky Grants), are effectively monitored and measured, allowing stories to be shared to demonstrate strategic progress and real-world impact.
- Work closely with the Head of Research, Head of Grants Administration, Research Program Development Manager, and other key stakeholders to embed robust evaluation and impact measurement practices/activities across all research schemes and strategic initiatives.
- Build impact and evaluation measurement and reporting frameworks for all NBCF grant schemes, aligning with the Pink Horizon Research Strategy's four strategic objectives.
- Develop and apply indicators/metrics across short-, medium-, and long-term horizons to measure research outputs, outcomes; and maintain NBCF's Impact Measurement and Reporting Matrix (ensuring data integrity, and consistency).
- Generate insights and visualisations from research data to inform internal strategic decision-making and external reporting requirements.
- Prepare and contribute to high-quality reports, presentations, case studies, and impact narratives for diverse audiences including the Board, Research Advisory Committee (RAC), donors, and the community.
- Develop and manage tools, and provide training and support for grant recipients, on impact reporting, narrative development, and evidence collection.
- Be an internal subject matter expert on impact/evaluation methodologies – horizon scan and review evolving trends, to ensure practise remains world-class and aligned with sector standards.
Essential Requirements
To excel in this role, you will be analytical as well as strategic, with robust experience in impact measurement and evaluation, and communicating those insights to diverse audiences.
You will be proactive, with a growth mindset; and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You will enjoy collaborating closely in a tight-knit, passionate team, enabling impactful breast cancer research.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as public health, life/social sciences (PhD or Master's degree highly desirable).
- Extensive experience in research evaluation, impact assessment, or performance measurement in a health or medical research context (experience working within grant-funding organisations, particularly in the not-for-profit sector highly regarded).
- Exceptional skills with data analysis (both qualitative and quantitative), and proven experience creating evaluation and impact measurement frameworks, metrics, and reporting tools aligned with strategic objectives.
- High level of computer literacy, including experience with data analysis/visualisation tools, research databases, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to story-tell when presenting research/evaluation findings, and tailor communications to a wide range of audiences and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external partners.
