Primary objective

The Director provides high level leadership 7-12 and drives student outcomes through provision of school improvement practices,

strategic and high-level education policy advice, leadership at the systemic certification level and effective consultation with stakeholders.

The Director leads the school improvement program areas to develop, implement, evaluate and report on strategic plans, policies and

programs that support the implementation of 7-12 curriculum, teaching, learning, assessment, reporting and certification in all Northern

Territory (NT) schools.

Context statement

Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) provides evidence-based differentiated services and support to preschools and schools to maximise

outcomes for Territory children and young people. Our services encompass quality teaching and learning, national and systemic

assessment, transition to boarding school support and policy coordination. TLS also plays a strategic role in implementing government

priorities, offering expert advice to the Education Minister and the department's senior executives. We enhance our work by actively

engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to ensure best outcomes for all of our clients.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead the development of policy and the provision of teaching, learning and assessment to improve learning outcomes and post-

school pathways for all secondary students in Northern Territory schools.

  1. Provide high-level advice to the executive officers in Department of Education (DoE) and other relevant stakeholders in the design,

delivery and evaluation of programs and initiatives in the area of 7-12 curriculum, teaching, learning, assessment, reporting and

certification.

  1. Develop, manage and evaluate the strategic directions of school improvement in relation to curriculum, pedagogy, assessment,

reporting and certification initiatives.

  1. Facilitate the provision of high-level system wide professional support and education advisory services relevant to the

implementation of curriculum, teaching, learning, assessment, reporting and certification in NT schools.

  1. Develop and maintain comprehensive networks and relationships with school communities, professional associations and agencies

both in the NT and interstate.

  1. Promote and identify performance measures, monitor, collect and analyse data to report on the performance of programs delivered

in schools in relation to meeting the specified program outcomes.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated management and leadership skills in a school environment with an ability to cultivate strong working relationships

and shape strategic thinking to deliver robust and evidence-based teaching, learning, assessment, reporting, certification and

accreditation services.

  1. High level interpersonal skills, including proven ability to communicate with influence, consult and negotiate with a range of key

stakeholders in an appropriate manner and interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.

  1. Demonstrated high level knowledge of Australian curriculum (AC), South Australia Certificate of Education (SACE) curriculum,

education policy, political and legislative issues, trends and developments across the education sector.

  1. Demonstrated ability to be progressive and innovative in a changing environment with the ability to resolve issues of potential

conflict and to negotiate issues of service delivery and performance.

The selected applicant must hold full Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory (TRB), current NT

Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card) and driver's licence or the ability to obtain prior to commencement. Visits to remote schools

may necessitate travel by 4WD vehicle or in light aircraft and include overnight stays in remote communities.
