About the Role

We are seeking a resilient, compassionate Community Mental Health Practitioner - Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander for a permanent, part-time (30.4 hours/week) opportunity to join our new Youth Residential Rehabilitation Centre. You'll play a vital role in helping young people build independence, develop life skills, and work towards their personal goals in a safe and supportive environment.

This role requires flexibility to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including night shifts, weekdays, weekends, and sleepovers.

Key responsibilities

  • Support young people to return to the community and live independently.
  • Engage clients using brief interventions, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, and family-inclusive practice.
  • Plan and deliver group programs to support recovery and skill-building.
  • Support young people in building or re-establishing connections with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and services.
  • Support families and carers with education, information, and referrals.
  • Collaborate with community services to ensure coordinated and integrated support.

What you'll bring

  • Applicant must identify as an Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Youth Work, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or other health-related field.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with mental health challenges, homelessness, or complex needs.
  • Strong connection to local communities and kinship groups is highly regarded.
  • Ability to provide proof of vaccination against vaccine preventable diseases or willingness to obtain required vaccinations per Queensland Health partnership
