About the role

Lucon Industries is seeking a full-time Mechanical Designer/Drafter to join our team in the Williamstown North or Ballan office. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for producing high-quality technical drawings and documentation to support the design, manufacturing and installation of our industry-leading materials handling plant and equipment.

What you'll be doing

  • Generate 2D and 3D CAD drawings, models and schematics using AutoCAD, SolidWorks and other design software
  • Collaborate with engineers and technical specialists to understand project requirements and translate them into detailed design plans
  • Produce documentation such as bills of materials, assembly instructions and technical specifications
  • Liaise with internal production teams and external suppliers to ensure drawings and designs are accurate and meet all necessary standards
  • Enjoy spending time out on sites meeting with clients and assisting the Project team with estimating based off your BOMs and drawings
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our design and documentation processes, building our library of drawings and resources

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years of experience as a CAD Designer/Drafter, ideally in the engineering, mining, quarrying, manufacturing, ports or marine industries
  • Proven drafting experience with strong capability in producing fabrication drawings, workshop details, and revising engineering markups accurately.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks is essential. (Good familiarity with Tekla/Advance Steel is highly regarded).
  • Good understanding of weld symbols, GD&T, machining tolerances and ability to produce practical shop drawings
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering or a related discipline is advantageous
