About the Opportunity

We're on the lookout for a detail-oriented Mechanical/Structural Design Engineer with a strong drafting background to become part of our growing team in Melbourne's northern suburbs. In this full-time role, you'll play an integral part in transforming conceptual designs into fully detailed engineering documentation, supporting both manufacturing and installation functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create precise technical drawings and 3D models for a variety of mechanical and structural applications using CAD tools
  • Partner with engineers to interpret design concepts and turn them into accurate plans and specifications
  • Review and critique drawings to ensure they comply with Australian Standards, the Building Code of Australia (BCA), and the National Construction Code (NCC)
  • Assist with technical problem-solving during fabrication and onsite assembly
  • Maintain drawing archives, registers, and all related documentation
  • Operate CAM software for laser programming tasks to support inhouse laser machine to assist with manufacture

  • Procurement of materials to support manufacture, understanding of components and specifications

  • Ability to design from concept to reality – can be manufactured economically inhouse

  • Prepare quotations and coordinate procurement of steel and related components

  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of drafting procedures and internal quality standards

What We're Looking For

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Proven drafting experience within a mechanical or structural engineering setting—manufacturing industry exposure is a plus
  • Strong ability to interpret and read drawings
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and structural design principles, including pneumatics
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and Inventor, or similar CAD packages
  • Familiar with relevant codes, standards, and technical documentation
  • Competent with Microsoft Office tools, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • High level of precision and ability to meet project deadlines
  • Strong communicator with a collaborative approach
