About Us
Nathan Contractors is a leading civil engineering contractor, renowned for delivering specialised services across Australia's infrastructure market. From major energy and bridge projects to dams, water, and mining infrastructure, we focus on concrete works, bringing expertise to complex civil projects across regions from Northern Queensland to Victoria. Known for our commitment to quality, safety, and innovation, we are looking for passionate professionals to join our team as we continue to grow and succeed.
The Position
Are you ready to elevate your career in civil estimating? As a Civil Estimator at Nathan Contractors, you'll be responsible for the meticulous planning, analysis, and estimation of costs associated with major civil infrastructure projects. This role requires a deep understanding of heavy concrete FRP (Formwork, Reinforcement, Pouring) work, civil site activities such as excavation, in-ground services, piling, and other foundational disciplines. You'll work closely with our project and engineering teams to develop accurate project budgets and competitive bids that help us secure and deliver high-quality work.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation and Analysis: Prepare detailed cost estimates by analysing project plans, specifications, and blueprints. Develop quantity take-offs and cost models that provide accurate budget forecasts.
- Resource Scheduling: Calculate material, labour, and equipment needs for each project stage, ensuring resources are optimally allocated for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Bid Preparation: Collaborate with project and engineering teams to develop comprehensive bid proposals, including all required documentation and cost breakdowns for submission to clients.
- Market and Industry Research: Stay updated on market rates, material costs, and industry trends to ensure competitive and realistic estimates.
- Reporting and Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of estimates, costings, and analysis reports for future reference and project audits.
- Client and Stakeholder Communication: Engage with clients, Tier 1 & contractors, and stakeholders to clarify project scopes and requirements, addressing any changes or adjustments promptly.
What's on Offer
- Innovative Work Environment: Be part of a forward-thinking and ambitious organisation that's shaping the future of civil engineering.
- Career Advancement: Our state-of-the-art corporate headquarters is designed to inspire growth, offering you opportunities to lead and influence.
- Top-Tier Collaboration: Work alongside Tier 1 & 2 Contractors and partner with leading clients across Energy, Mining, Civil, and Utilities.
- Competitive Salary Package: Enjoy a market-leading salary with performance-based bonuses.
- Continuous Growth: Access ongoing training, mentorship, and support to refine your skills and advance your career.
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline, with at least 5+ years of experience in project delivery, particularly in a civil estimating role.
- Proven background in heavy concrete works and experience with FRP (Formwork, Reinforcement, Pouring), excavation, in-ground services, and piling.
- In-depth knowledge of construction methodologies, resource and programming allocation, contract negotiation, and subcontractor management.
- Experience working with a local medium to large civil contractor on infrastructure, energy, water, or mining projects.
- Advanced skills in estimating software and Excel for cost modelling and project analysis.
- Strong understanding of formwork design and temporary systems for major concrete structures.
Next Steps
As part of our selection process, you will undergo a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening, and qualification checks. Please ensure you can provide documentation confirming your eligibility to work in Australia, such as a valid passport, birth certificate, citizenship certificate, or current visa. We look forward to receiving your application and potentially welcoming you to Nathan Contractors, where your expertise and ambition are valued and rewarded.
