About the role
We are looking for an Assistant Collection Officer to join our team in Museum Education and Visitor Services at the Royal Australian Mint.
The newly-upgraded Museum experience at the Royal Australian Mint is curated from our National Coin Collection (NCC) - over 18,000 objects that includes coins produced here at the Mint, but also original designs and plasters, books and historical records.
The Assistant Collection Officer reports to and takes direction from the Collection Officer in delivering the day-to-day administration of The National Coin Collection.
This role helps maintain that Collection - providing administrative support and assistance with research, exhibition content, maintaining the collection database, accessioning, responding to public enquires, digitisation, Collection stocktake and assisting in access to the Collection.
As planning has commenced for the construction of a purpose-built storage facility within the existing Mint building footprint, our Assistant Collection Officer will have a career-defining opportunity to participate in the project work supporting the Collection move, and contributing to its care and stewardship for future generations.
Because of their strong attention to detail and care for our Collection, they will enjoy contributing to its growth while ensuring we maintain a strong focus on complying with WHS and risk requirements are met as we build the value and breadth of this important Collection.
The duties of this position include:
Assisting the Collection Officer in the administration of the National Coin Collection, including accessioning, updating and maintaining the collection database, research, assisting with collection access, and provide stocktake and retrieval of the Collection.
Assisting in project work on the Collection's migration to a new purpose-built facility.
Responding to online, telephone and email enquiries related to the Collection.
Contributing to the work of the digitising our NCC objects.
Providing further support to the broader team including helping with administrative tasks and occasional support of public program activity.
Understanding and complying with all workplace health and safety responsibilities.
Security clearance
This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Requirement
Holds, or has the ability to obtain a current ACT Working with Vulnerable People Card.
