RTS is a leading provider of rail labour solutions, delivering specialised workforces that help rail operators maximise efficiency and performance.
We are now seeking Roll By Observers to join our team. This is a role designed for new-to-industry applicants looking to start a career in rail. In this role, you'll be trained to carry out train roll-by inspections in line with procedures. You'll visually inspect passing trains from the ground or on-train, identifying equipment issues, load security concerns or defects, and reporting findings to help keep operations safe and efficient.
Job requirements
To succeed in this role, you'll share our values of Safety, Integrity, People and Excellence, and bring:
- A valid full C Class Driver's Licence
- Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance
Capability to pass all pre-employment checks, including:
CAT 1 medical
- Physical assessment
- Ongoing drug and alcohol screening
Job responsibilities
As a Roll by Observer, you'll be:
- Positioning yourself safely trackside to conduct roll-by inspections of passing trains
- Confirm train identification and communicate with relevant personnel
- Observe the condition of rolling stock and note any visible faults
- Report faults that require immediate action to prevent safety risks
- Accurately record and report inspection findings to appropriate teams
